Sebastian Vettel in Talks with Helmut Marko for Potential F1 Successor Role

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel is in early talks with Helmut Marko regarding potentially succeeding him as an advisor to the Red Bull F1 team in the future as Marko’s contract runs until the end of 2026.

Marko has been instrumental in Red Bull’s F1 journey since 2005, especially in driver line-ups and young driver programs, but has yet to confirm his plans post-2026, when he will be 84 years old.

Vettel expressed his fondness for Marko and the possibility of taking over his role, stating the decision is still in the early stages with the exact nature of the role to be determined.

While Vettel respects Marko and hopes he continues, he acknowledges that eventually, everyone moves on, and Marko’s realistic approach will guide him in deciding the right time to step down.

Should Vettel become a Red Bull advisor, he recognizes he’d bring a different perspective than Marko but aims to continue and build upon the work Marko has done for the team since 2005.

Vettel, now retired from racing, remains interested in F1 for the psychological aspects of driver behavior rather than technical details, showing a keen interest in his former colleagues’ performances and mindsets.

Marko has mentioned that the succession plan is a decision for the company shareholders, indicating that there are several interested parties, including Vettel, eyeing the role but emphasizing that the focus for now is on current activities until the summer break.
