Marc Marquez, the current MotoGP championship leader, secured pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, narrowly edging out local favorite Francesco Bagnaia in a factory Ducati one-two.
Marquez set the fastest time early in the session, aided by a slipstream from his brother Alex Marquez at Mugello.
Despite challenges from Quartararo, Bagnaia, and Alex Marquez, the six-time world champion responded with a strong lap to claim pole position.
Bagnaia finished a close second, just over five-hundredths of a second behind Marquez, with Alex Marquez in third place.
Quartararo took fourth after a crash on Friday, followed by Vinales, Morbidelli, and Di Giannantonio completing the top seven.
