Thailand’s cabinet approved a bid to host a Formula 1 grand prix in Bangkok, with the plan aiming for a 2028 debut and a $1.2 billion budget set aside for the project. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and Williams’ Thai driver Alex Albon have shown support for the initiative, indicating a high level of seriousness from Thailand. The country is eager to secure a spot on the F1 calendar to boost tourism and revenue, with talks of potential race designs and layouts being positive. If the Thailand Grand Prix materializes, it would mark a significant return of F1 to southeast Asia following the last race in Malaysia in 2017. There are plans for rotation of European rounds to make room for new additions like the Bangkok street race, aligning with efforts to keep the F1 calendar balanced without exceeding 24 races.
