The 2027 MotoGP technical regulations will feature a transition from Michelin to Pirelli tires, a change long-prepared by the Italian company’s experience in Moto2, Moto3, and Formula 1.
Pirelli has accelerated the development of its new compounds since the March announcement, with plans for a test after the Aragon GP initially postponed due to various issues.
Confirmed sources reveal that the first on-track testing of Pirelli tires for MotoGP will occur on September 16 in Misano, shortly after the San Marino GP and the official IRTA test.
Teams will contribute their test riders and a laboratory bike to replicate the 2027 prototypes closely, featuring current 1000cc bikes with specific modifications.
Pirelli covers the costs of the initial trial, resolving prior disputes about test funding, paving the way for further comprehensive testing in 2026 with increased rider involvement.
These tests aim to fine-tune Pirelli’s designed compounds for the upcoming MotoGP season, gathering valuable data for ongoing development and involvement of full-time riders in the tire refinement process.
