Andrea Kimi Antonelli experienced goosebumps after achieving his first Formula 1 podium at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday. The 18-year-old rookie finished third at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve with a solid drive, despite pressure from championship leader Oscar Piastri.
Antonelli, who stood on the podium with race winner George Russell and Max Verstappen, showcased his talent in Montreal, marking his strongest performance yet this year. Despite the challenges he faced during a difficult triple-header, the podium served as a confidence boost and a way to bounce back.
The young driver expressed the stress he felt during the race, particularly in the closing laps when Piastri closed in with DRS range. Antonelli acknowledged the team’s progress and the support he receives from Russell as they aim to maintain their momentum in upcoming races.
Antonelli, only 10 races into his F1 career after replacing Lewis Hamilton, cherished the moment of standing on the podium, feeling the crowd’s energy and receiving a boost unlike anything else. Looking ahead, he aspires to capitalize on the current momentum, aiming for more podiums and potentially his first victory in the future. Inspired by Verstappen’s early success in F1, Antonelli values racing against the best drivers on the grid and credits Russell for aiding his development in the sport.
