George Russell acknowledges that his impressive performance in the second practice session at the F1 Canadian Grand Prix was the best possible result he could achieve in his Mercedes. He topped the timesheets, just narrowly ahead of Lando Norris. Russell attributed his success to the cooler track temperatures in Montreal and stated that he was pushing his car to its limits. Notably, Russell set his fastest time on the medium C5 tires, while Norris used the softer C6 compound.
Russell expressed satisfaction at leading the leaderboard and acknowledged Mercedes’ strength in cooler conditions despite their weakness in hotter temperatures. Moving forward, Russell anticipates a tough challenge from Norris in Sunday’s race and recognizes the importance of tire strategy. Additionally, rookie driver Kimi Andrea Antonelli also showed promise by finishing third in practice and commended the confidence-inspiring balance of his W16 car. Both drivers are optimistic about maintaining their performance level for the remainder of the race weekend.
