The clash between Formula 1’s 2026 Canadian Grand Prix and IndyCar’s Indianapolis 500 will only occur once every five years, according to Motorsport.com sources. This clash was confirmed after F1’s announcement of a 24-race calendar for the next year, with Monaco moving two weeks back and Canada taking its spot on 22-24 May. The overlap of the two prestigious races is a disappointment for motorsports enthusiasts, but it is expected to be an exception rather than the norm. Montreal is set to run the weekend before the Indy 500 in 2027, as F1 looks to bring the Canada round closer to Miami. This move will aid in achieving F1’s Net Zero 2030 campaign by minimizing cross-Atlantic freight travel, although personnel will still need to make separate trips in May. Montreal’s decision to hold the race later in May is driven by operational concerns and the unpredictability of the weather during that month. Despite the clash between the two iconic events, F1 does not seem too concerned about the situation or its impact on other racing series.
