Michelin is set to launch a new line of slick tires for the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA SportsCar Championship next year, made from 50% sustainable materials. The percentage of renewable and recycled components in the tires used for Hypercar in WEC and GTP in IMSA will exceed the initial 40% target. This marks a significant increase from the current range of tires, which consists of 30% sustainable materials. The new Pilot Sport Endurance range for 2026 will be introduced before the Le Mans 24 Hours. Michelin aims to produce 30,000 units annually, a substantial increase compared to similar sustainable tires used in other series. The company’s ultimate goal is to introduce tires made from 100% sustainable materials for road use by 2050, emphasizing the role of motorsport in driving sustainable technology advancements. The latest range will include three slick tire specifications – soft, medium, and hard, catering to different racing conditions and requirements. Michelin is also exploring options to reduce tire allocations per car during WEC events in the future, with potential rule adjustments for 2027 to enhance efficiency and performance on the track.
