Red Bull Formula 1 advisor Helmut Marko expressed confusion over Max Verstappen’s decision-making during the chaotic final laps of the Spanish Grand Prix. Marko highlighted the pivotal moment when Verstappen lost third place to Charles Leclerc after a safety car restart on lap 61. Verstappen’s frustration escalated, leading to an incident with George Russell following a series of events. Despite initial reluctance, Verstappen eventually gave back the position to Russell under protest. The race ultimately ended in a 10-second penalty and three penalty points for Verstappen, nearing a potential race ban. Marko acknowledged the complexities of the situation, emphasizing that emotions got the better of Verstappen, who later issued an apology for his actions on social media.
