Max Verstappen acknowledged that his clash with George Russell at the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix was inappropriate and should not have occurred. Despite finishing 10th after receiving a penalty and three penalty points, he believed he was in the right during the incidents.
The race took a turn for the worse for Verstappen when he lost third place to Charles Leclerc after a safety car restart on lap 61. He then had to defend fiercely from a Russell divebomb, resulting in wheel-to-wheel contact at Turn 1. Despite Red Bull instructing Verstappen to give up fourth place to Russell, a clash between the two drivers ensued at Turn 5 on lap 64.
Verstappen expressed his frustration on Instagram, citing the safety car restart and tyre strategy as contributing factors. He emphasized his commitment to the team and acknowledged that emotions can run high in racing. Despite the incident, Verstappen concluded his post with a positive note, looking forward to the next race in Montreal.
