Denny Hamlin, with two Cup wins this year, is gearing up for his 700th career Cup start on Sunday, but the impending arrival of his baby boy may prevent him from hitting the track. His partner Jordan Fish is due to give birth on June 1st, coinciding with the Cup race in Nashville. The reserve driver, Ryan Truex, brother of Martin Truex Jr., is prepared to step in and drive the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota if needed. Truex, though out of Cup racing since 2014, has been racking up wins in the Xfinity Series, showing his potential. NASCAR’s updated playoff waiver policy assures no penalty for Hamlin if he misses the race due to the birth of his child, under valid medical reasons. If Truex replaces Hamlin mid-race, Hamlin will still receive credit for the final finishing position, maintaining fairness and sportsmanship.
