Unleashing the Potential: Max Verstappen’s FIA Platinum Race Licence Opportunities

Max Verstappen recently obtained a specific FIA license required for endurance races, including the Le Mans 24 Hours and possibly the Nurburgring 24 Hours, after his GT3 test with Emil Frey Racing. Verstappen humorously mentioned he hoped for a bronze license, only to receive a platinum one due to his Formula 1 superlicence, making him fall under the highest category of drivers.

This platinum license is granted to drivers who have achieved top positions in Tier 1 championships such as Formula 1, WEC, or IndyCar, ensuring a level playing field in multi-driver events like endurance racing. Verstappen can now pursue his goal of competing in the Le Mans 24 Hours with this FIA license, although some scheduling conflicts may need resolving with his current F1 commitments.

While it was more common for drivers to participate in both F1 and sportscar events in the past, logistical challenges and the demanding nature of modern calendars may pose obstacles for Verstappen’s dual ambitions. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has expressed some reservations about Verstappen’s potential involvement in sportscar racing while he continues his F1 career.
