Breaking Boundaries: Wickens’ Triumph in Embracing Change

Robert Wickens approached his first race of the season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Long Beach with the simple goal of leaving with their heads held high. Racing with hand controls adapted in a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, he showcased impressive performance despite obstacles. Wickens featured the flawless Bosch electronic brake system during the 100-minute race, exemplifying his pace at a professional level since his comeback from the life-changing 2018 accident in IndyCar.

Despite challenges such as a side-swipe during qualifying, Wickens found success by topping the second free practice and nearly clinching pole position. Aiming for a debut pole, the team’s eighth-place finish left room for improvement due to time lost during crucial driver changes. Wickens emphasized the significance of Bosch’s breakthrough electronic brake system integrated into the Corvette, marking a positive step in his racing comeback journey.

Bosch Motorsport’s engineer emphasized the system’s seamless integration with the car, enhancing Wickens’ control and performance on the track. The race at Long Beach revealed both the potential and challenges for Wickens and teammate Tommy Milner, showcasing their determination in the face of adversity. Despite setbacks, the team’s focus remains on maximizing Wickens’ potential in the upcoming IMSA sprint races and continuing their competitive progress in the championship.
