Despite being a top favorite for the victory, Pato O’Ward finished the Indianapolis 500 in fourth place, unable to keep up with the leading pack.
Although starting from the front row in his No. 5 Arrow McLaren, O’Ward lacked the necessary pace for a shot at the win.
Alex Palou’s decisive pass on Marcus Ericsson with 14 laps remaining secured Palou the victory for the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing team.
While Ericsson blamed himself for allowing Palou to overtake, O’Ward criticized the race dynamics, calling them “pathetic” and below the level expected at the Indy 500.
Despite the frustrations, O’Ward managed a fourth-place finish, his fifth top-six result in six appearances at the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
