McLaren team boss Andrea Stella believes Lando Norris made a significant stride in connecting with his car after securing pole for the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Norris outpaced Charles Leclerc by a tenth of a second on the challenging street circuit, with his teammate Oscar Piastri trailing by 0.175s. This marked Norris’ second pole of the 2025 season and his first since the Australian Grand Prix opener.
Struggling previously to maximize the McLaren MCL39’s potential in qualifying, Norris acknowledged the difficulties he faced in understanding the car’s responses, prompting adjustments within the team.
Stella emphasized the importance of Norris’ pole as a result of dedicated work behind the scenes at the McLaren headquarters in Woking, facilitating the driver to harness his speed and talent effectively.
Despite Norris’ success, Stella noted room for improvement in making the car more predictable at the limit, acknowledging similar challenges faced by Piastri and expressing optimism for future progress with both drivers.
