Adrian Newey Praises the Underrated Talent of Lance Stroll

Adrian Newey defended Lance Stroll, stating that the Canadian has been unfairly criticized outside the team. Despite facing high-profile errors since his F1 debut in 2017, Stroll encountered more troubles at the Monaco Grand Prix, resulting in a gearbox change and a grid penalty. Team principal Andy Cowell took responsibility for the incident and highlighted the need to improve communication.

As Aston Martin’s managing technical partner, Newey oversees all technical aspects and is already working on the 2026 car within the new regulations. He commended Stroll, stating that the driver is better than many people perceive. While Newey appreciates Stroll, he also expressed admiration for the team’s line-up, including Fernando Alonso.

Newey, known for designing winning cars for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, is particularly impressed with Alonso’s character and racing skills. Despite having to align with Aston Martin’s stance on Stroll, Newey’s comments underline his respect for Alonso and his excitement to work with the two-time world champion.
