Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta to miss first MotoGP race in 33 years

Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta is set to miss the MotoGP British Grand Prix following surgery for a spinal injury.

This will be the first grand prix Ezpeleta misses since taking over the championship in 1992.

The Spaniard underwent surgery to address chronic pain from a spinal condition affecting two vertebrae.

He aims to return for the next championship round in Aragon in two weeks.

Ezpeleta, now 79, has been the public face of MotoGP and Dorna’s CEO since 1992.

Under his leadership, more than 500 grands prix have been held, with Silverstone being the 563rd but the first he will miss.

Ezpeleta will retain a 14% stake in MotoGP post-sale to Liberty Media, with the deal expected to be finalized around June and a transition period planned until at least the end of 2026. In 2027, new technical regulations overseen by Ezpeleta will be implemented.
