Robert Shwartzman shocked everyone by securing pole position for this year’s Indianapolis 500, starting from the bottom and ending up on top in the pole shootout. As a rookie, he is the first in 42 years to achieve this feat, sharing the front row with Takuma Sato and Pato O’Ward. Scott Dixon leads the second row alongside Felix Rosenqvist and Alex Palou.
During the Fast 6 round, Sato initially held provisional pole but was ultimately overtaken by Shwartzman, causing a major upset. The dramatic Fast 12 session saw only nine drivers due to Team Penske’s issues, with only Palou making it to the Fast 6. Unfortunately, David Malukas missed out, landing in seventh.
Jacob Abel failed to qualify for the Indy 500, losing out to Marco Andretti, Marcus Armstrong, and Rinus VeeKay in the final row decider. VeeKay’s last-minute decision to re-run despite a slower time added to the tension of the qualifying session, showcasing the intense battle for grid positions.
