Horner Accuses McLaren F1 Drivers of Putting Self-Interest First

Red Bull boss Christian Horner suggested that McLaren’s team dynamics may be undermined by having two drivers vying for championship glory, potentially leading to self-interest taking precedence over team objectives, a situation that could be detrimental for McLaren.

Horner specifically mentioned the competition between McLaren’s drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, praising their clean and intense battle for position at Imola’s Tamburello corner.

He noted McLaren’s strategy of letting Norris and Piastri race each other, even though it ultimately benefitted race leader Max Verstappen by allowing him to maintain his lead and pull away from the McLaren duo.

Despite their internal competition, Horner acknowledged McLaren’s smart race strategy decisions, particularly Piastri’s two-stop strategy that put him in a challenging position due to traffic and tire management issues.

Horner believed that Red Bull had superior pace during the Imola race weekend, with Verstappen demonstrating both speed and tire management skills, allowing the team to confidently control the race and secure a comfortable lead.

Overall, Horner was pleased with Red Bull’s performance and strategy at Imola, highlighting Verstappen’s ability to manage the race effectively and maintain a strong position against the competition.
