The World Rally Championship and the FIA are collaborating to address future event schedules due to the backlash from Rally Portugal’s extreme itinerary criticized by drivers. The revised schedule included more stages than the previous year, leading to long, exhaustive days for crews spanning into the night. Some drivers voiced safety concerns, with Sebastien Ogier acknowledging the physical toll and the need for changes in upcoming schedules. WRC Promoter acknowledged the need to reassess event lengths and working hours, drafting guidelines to ensure a balance between challenge and sustainability. Discussions on working hours and event organization were initiated prior to the rally, aiming to implement new guidelines for better practices in creating rally itineraries. The goal is to have these guidelines in place starting from next year to address concerns raised by drivers and ensure the sustainability of the sport.
