Qualifying for the All-Star Race weekend in NASCAR is a unique process involving a pit stop in the middle of the second lap. The time it takes from start to finish of the run determines each driver’s qualifying time, with penalties for errors like loose wheels or speeding in the pit lane. The first drivers on track are from the All-Star Open race, with the top two finishers advancing to the main event, and a third joining through the Fan Vote.
Shane van Gisbergen surprised by putting his No. 88 Chevrolet on pole position, with a strong performance during the pit stop despite being new to the track. He acknowledged the teamwork of his crew and sponsors like WeatherTech and Trackhouse Racing for the opportunity. Van Gisbergen expressed his excitement about starting at the front on an oval and his willingness to learn the rules for the race.
Joining Van Gisbergen on the front row is Carson Hocevar from Spire Motorsports, another top contender in the Fan Vote. Noah Gragson, Michael McDowell, and Ryan Preece rounded out the top five qualifiers, with strong performances from Zane Smith, Justin Haley, John Hunter Nemechek, Ty Gibbs, and Ty Dillon also noted.
