F1 Imola GP: McLaren gets 1-2 in red-flagged FP2

Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris dominated Friday running at Formula 1’s Imola GP, with McLaren showing strong form and retaining their early advantage. Piastri led both FP1 and FP2, narrowly beating Norris with a mere 0.025s gap, maintaining their lead over the competition.

Norris took charge early in FP2 with a quick lap, but was bested by Carlos Sainz in the Williams on the same compound. As the session progressed, Piastri set the pace with a 1m15.293s, ahead of Norris.

Pierre Gasly of Alpine surprised by finishing third, while Max Verstappen showed improvement but was still behind the McLarens. Charles Leclerc struggled for Ferrari in sixth, urging improvements in specific corners.

Isack Hadjar of Racing Bulls ended the session in seventh after a late off, causing a red flag. The day ended with Yuki Tsunoda in eighth and Lewis Hamilton in 11th, facing challenges with the brakes. Franco Colapinto made a solid return finishing 13th for Alpine.
