Punishment on the Track: NASCAR’s Strict Penalties for RFK Racing and Chris Buescher

Chris Buescher finished eighth at Kansas Speedway, but he and Carson Hocevar faced further inspection at the NASCAR R&D Center. The No. 77 Chevrolet cleared inspection, while Buescher’s No. 17 Ford Mustang did not. NASCAR cited a violation of specific rules regarding the front bumper cover.

Consequently, the No. 17 team received a $75,000 fine, and crew chief Scott Graves was suspended for two races. This includes missing the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Buescher also lost 60 driver and owner points, along with five playoff points.

Although Buescher is winless this season, he was holding 12th place in the playoff standings. However, the points deduction drops him to 24th, now 27 points outside the cutoff line. With no playoff points earned yet, he is currently in the negative.
