Alex Palou had a remarkable achievement in the 2025 IndyCar season by setting a significant 0.4099s gap for pole position over Graham Rahal in the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing #15 car, marking the largest difference in over two years.
This surpasses the previous largest margin set in March 2023 at St. Pete by teammates Romain Grosjean and Colton Herta of the former Andretti Autosport operation.
Despite facing a front right tire lockup on his first flying lap in the Fast Six, Palou managed to secure the pole with a scorching 1:09.3417 lap, attributing his success to being on sticker alternates and the track conditions.
Palou explained that his tires were already on the limit during qualifying, pushing him to give his all for the final lap to secure his eighth career IndyCar Series pole and second consecutive pole at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in 2025.
However, Palou acknowledged the challenge he will face in the Sonsio Grand Prix, where he must utilize some compromised tires from qualifying due to lock-ups, potentially impacting his race performance and strategy.
