Race control at the Nordschleife, hosting the 24 Hours of Nurburgring Qualifiers Race 1, reports “several injured drivers” after a major crash at the German circuit.
Approximately an hour after the red flag, it was confirmed that “rescue operations for several injured drivers are currently in full swing.
Further updates will be provided by race control as more information is gathered.
The race is currently suspended, and the broadcast has been paused.
It remains uncertain when or if the race will continue.
Engineers at the Nurburgring suggest that racing will likely not resume this evening.
One driver has been airlifted to the hospital due to back and neck pain, while car #27 and #992 drivers are reportedly safe.
Tragically, racing driver Jula Miettinen has lost his life in the crash, leading to the cancellation of the race.
