The Rise of Oscar Piastri: Challenging Mercedes to Prove Their Worth

Just how much of an impact will the Mercedes upgrade package in Canada have on the championship?

Australian driver Oscar Piastri is cautious about the impact of the upcoming upgrade package on Mercedes’ performance when Formula 1 returns in two weeks.

Unlike McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari, who introduced various updates at the recent Miami Grand Prix, Mercedes opted for only minor new components for their W17 cars.

Mercedes had previously announced they would unveil their first major upgrade of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Despite McLaren’s progress with the MCL40, Kimi Antonelli won his third straight race, expanding his lead over George Russell by 20 points in the driver standings.

McLaren outscored Mercedes by three points at the Miami sprint weekend, reducing the gap in the constructors’ championship to 86 points.

Piastri acknowledges that Mercedes could potentially negate these gains with significant improvements from their upcoming upgrade package in Montreal.
