Sébastien Ogier was surprised to find himself leading Rally Italia Sardinia after a challenging Friday that caught several of his World Rally Championship rivals off guard. Despite facing the effects of road cleaning and starting third in the morning, he managed to finish the day with a 2.1s lead over Adrien Fourmaux of Hyundai. Ogier claimed the lead after the opening stage but briefly dropped to third, only to regain the lead when Thierry Neuville retired from the lead after hitting a rock. A setup tweak by Fourmaux in between stages didn’t pay off, allowing Ogier to take the lead by winning the stage. Despite the surprises, Ogier was pleased with his performance and acknowledged the tight competition ahead. Adrien Fourmaux remained positive despite a setback in the final stage, vowing to stay in the fight for his maiden WRC victory. Ott Tanak experienced challenges with his Hyundai throughout the day but managed to secure third place, facing suspension issues that cost him valuable time. Sami Pajari impressed with a fourth-place finish, while Kalle Rovanperä found encouraging pace after struggling in the morning.
