The FIA has released the updated F1 racing guidelines for 2025 along with the penalty system, aiming for more transparency in decision-making. These guidelines have undergone significant revisions following intense debates and collaboration with drivers after last season’s incidents. The latest version, previously confidential, is now publicly available on the FIA website. Key aspects include priority in wheel-to-wheel battles and the requirement to leave space during overtaking maneuvers. The guidelines outline specific criteria for overtaking on the inside, outside, and in chicanes or S-bends, emphasizing the importance of controlled driving and track limits adherence. While these guidelines provide a framework for steward decisions, individual circumstances and factors such as car handling, visibility, and track characteristics are also considered in each case. George Russell from Mercedes emphasized the significance of transparency in the FIA’s communication, illustrating the ongoing dialogue and evolution in F1 regulations.
