Williams confirm four major signings from F1 rivals

Williams has poached a senior figure from McLaren to headline a quartet of signings to kick off the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.

Williams has announced the appointment of Piers Thynne, former McLaren COO, and three other senior technical hires as part of their team restructuring led by James Vowles.

Thynne will join as the chief optimization and planning officer in August, bringing over 25 years of operations and manufacturing experience from McLaren’s successful period in 2024 and 2025.

His role at Williams will focus on optimizing processes, resources, and implementing advanced technology to upgrade the team’s facilities and improve performance.

Thynne expressed his excitement to contribute to Williams’ aspirations of reaching championship level and setting new standards in F1, after his successful tenure at McLaren.

In addition to Thynne, Williams has also added Claire Simpson, Fred Judd, and Steve Booth to strengthen their aerodynamic development, performance optimization, and vehicle engineering departments, respectively.

These strategic hires, with over 65 years of combined F1 experience and championship-winning backgrounds, highlight Williams’ commitment to building a competitive team and attracting top talent from the paddock.
