It’s a major step on the motorsport ladder for this rising young British star? How far will he go?
McLaren has recently enlisted 11-year-old Harry Williams, the 2025 British Open karting champion, to their Academy roster in search of the next British racing sensation, akin to Lando Norris.
Harry Williams, who began karting at the age of six, will be competing in various prestigious races this year, including the WSK Super Master Series, WSK Euro Series, Champions of the Future Series, and the FIA Karting Championships.
McLaren’s chief business affairs officer, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, praised Williams as an exceptional talent on both the national and international karting scenes and expressed eagerness to witness his progress as a McLaren driver.
By incorporating young talents like Williams into their Academy, McLaren aims to establish a steady pipeline for future F1, IndyCar, and World Endurance Championship teams, fostering long-term success in motorsport.
The addition of Williams to McLaren’s talented Academy roster, which includes promising drivers such as Ella Häkkinen, Pato O’Ward, and Richard Verschoor, exemplifies their commitment to nurturing and developing emerging racing stars.
In response, Williams expressed his enthusiasm for joining the McLaren Driver Development Programme, citing McLaren’s renowned track record in talent cultivation and his aspirations to advance from karting to single-seater racing under their guidance.
