Fermin Aldeguer has been warned that it would be a “mistake” to accept VR46’s offer.
Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP team is considering the teenage Moto2 talent to replace Luca Marini, who is set to join Repsol Honda. The team’s decision is pending finalization by VR46. Despite having the opportunity to join the premier class with a free Ducati, some believe it may be a mistake for the young rider to make the jump to MotoGP at this stage. Aldeguer, who is just 18 years old, has been overshadowed by Pedro Acosta in Moto2 this year, with Acosta set for a high-profile MotoGP rookie campaign in 2024. Aldeguer has the option to join Acosta in MotoGP or to stay in Moto2 and potentially join Pramac Ducati in 2025. The battle for Aldeguer’s signature is between VR46 and Pramac, with VR46 offering an immediate move to MotoGP on year-old machinery, while Pramac proposes another year in Moto2 before a switch to factory-spec Ducati.
