The Aston Martin driver finished ninth in a Bahrain Grand Prix the team was firmly fifth-best, which is what it predicted.
Fernando Alonso expressed his belief that Aston Martin found themselves in a challenging position during the Bahrain Grand Prix, with the team’s simulations proving to be accurate. Despite Alonso starting in sixth place, he was quickly overtaken by the McLarens and Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes due to the AMR24’s inability to keep up with the top four teams from the previous season. In a bid to gain an advantage, Alonso chose to extend his stint and hoped for a Safety Car scenario which didn’t materialize, ultimately finishing the race over a minute behind the winner, Max Verstappen. The team’s pre-race predictions of being in the mid-field proved to be accurate, as Alonso found himself surrounded by teams with no clear threat in sight. Although the team lacked pace during the race, Alonso highlighted their impressive qualifying performance and the strategic decisions made during the event. Despite finishing out of the points, teammate Lance Stroll showed resilience with a tenth-place finish after being spun out by Nico Hulkenberg in the opening lap.
