WRC Japan: Evans extends lead after Ogier penalty
At the end of the day, Evans had a 1m49.9s lead over Ogier, who received a one-minute penalty. Evans took the rally lead after a strong performance in wet conditions and was leading by 26.0s ahead of Neuville before the latter crashed out. Ogier’s penalty allowed Rovanpera to catch up to him, finishing the day only 16.7s behind. Mikkelsen finished fourth, followed by Munster and Gryazin. Lappi finished seventh, followed by Tanak and Katsuta. Fourmaux and Sordo retired after crashing on stage two. The day ended with a super special stage, with Lappi winning against Ogier and Tanak winning against Rovanpera. Saturday will consist of eight more stages.
