In the race, the Spaniard quickly advanced from tenth place on the grid and fought for the lead in the opening laps. He had a conduct warning after forcing his title rival, Sasaki, wide on a couple of occasions. He then battled with Sasaki, Alonso, and Oncu for the top positions. Sasaki was pushed back by Masia’s teammate, Fernandez, which caused him to lose time and finish sixth. Masia maintained a small lead over Alonso and Oncu, ultimately securing the victory.
