Aston Martin’s new team principal Andy Cowell acknowledges that despite winning the most updates world championship in 2024, the team needs to focus on refining its internal processes to ensure that new parts perform as expected. The series of updates introduced at Imola, including a new floor and front wing, made the car challenging to drive, resulting in a difficult period from Monaco to Spain with only a 6-7 finish in Montreal breaking the streak. There were concerns that the updates didn’t significantly enhance performance, prompting Cowell to emphasize the importance of validating new components before race weekends. Cowell stressed the need for a more successful rate of development, aiming for a 90% certainty level that updates will meet expectations when taken to the track. The goal is to build Aston Martin into a world championship-winning team by improving processes at the AMR Technology Campus and leveraging advanced simulation tools to increase success rates above the industry standard. The team’s ambition is clear, with Cowell highlighting the commitment to achieving performance gains that align with the standards of championship-winning teams in Formula 1.
