EU Official Demands Accountability: Probe Launched on F1 Powerhouse Liberty Media

A Belgian MEP is seeking an investigation into F1 owner Liberty Media.

A member of the European Parliament, Pascal Arimont, has urged the European Commission to investigate Liberty Media, the owner of Formula 1, over possible violations of European competition laws. Arimont’s concern stems from Liberty’s ownership of F1, moves to acquire MotoGP, and its stake in Formula E, which he believes give Liberty a monopoly. In the United States, Congress and the Department of Justice are also investigating Liberty, with allegations of anti-competitive behavior in the live concert industry. The concerns raised by Arimont and Congress highlight the importance of protecting fair competition and preventing monopolies in the global sports and entertainment market. Rep. Jim Jordan and other lawmakers are particularly focused on potential breaches of anti-trust laws by Liberty, both in Europe and the US. Liberty’s actions are under scrutiny for their impact on consumers, artists, and industry competition.
