Bearing Witness to Injustice: Ben Sulayem Takes a Stand Against Biased British Media Portrayal of FIA Treatment

Mohammed Ben Sulayem has criticised the approach of some in the British media.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem criticized the British media for what he perceives as unfair treatment that has “convicted” him. Ben Sulayem, who took office in December 2021 after Jean Todt, led the FIA through the investigation of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and expressed a desire for less profanity from drivers, referring to the Max Verstappen uproar in Singapore. Outgoing Red Bull CTO Adrian Newey claimed that Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel were “demonised” by the British press, a sentiment Ben Sulayem echoes. Despite feeling targeted by the media, Ben Sulayem remains focused on his role, emphasizing that ultimate power lies with the FIA’s General Assembly, not the media. While acknowledging the challenges he faces, Ben Sulayem is determined to continue prioritizing the interests of the sport and its members, emphasizing his resilience and commitment to upholding the values of the FIA.
