Ben Sulayem, who took office in December 2021 after Jean Todt, led the FIA through the investigation of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and expressed a desire for less profanity from drivers, referring to the Max Verstappen uproar in Singapore. Outgoing Red Bull CTO Adrian Newey claimed that Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel were “demonised” by the British press, a sentiment Ben Sulayem echoes. Despite feeling targeted by the media, Ben Sulayem remains focused on his role, emphasizing that ultimate power lies with the FIA’s General Assembly, not the media.
